My question is thus: do missionaries have that same power? To not be confined in prisons and no one can slay them? Or was it only a Book of Mormon thing?

Scripture Musings...
Alma and Amulek were given power to such that they could not be confined in dungeons and no one could slay them but they didn't exercise this power till they were confined in prisons or bound in bands. The Lord promised Mosiah that his sons would not be slain by the Lamanites, thus preserving Ammon's and the rest of brothers and companies lives.

Well considering that a missionary was just shot and killed in Jamaica I'd say that it is not for all missionaries. Do I think they have extra protection? Absolutely. Do missionaries occasionally get hurt or die anyway? Sadly, yes.
