And the Verdict is...

Let me tell you about the kind of week I've been having - on Monday, i woke up with a headache I took something for it and then went to work. Once there, they had me sort a kajillion referral cards for the new doctors and then deliver them all over the complex. Some of the people had not a clue what I was trying to give them, they looked at me like I was an idiot or something. The project took longer than planned - so I ended up staying late. I finally got home around five that evening but hadn't eaten anything since breakfast much much earlier that morning - consequently I was extremely hungry, tired, my headache had returned and my feet and knees hurt from standing all day. That night I tripped going into the shower and a huge chunk got taken out of my toe.
Tuesday morning, I dropped by the library, the only place I get internet access on my computer, to pay a bill, I'd gotten a nasty gram from the school, on my way to work - turning into the parking lot of the hospital the wand that has the headlights and the blinkers attached to it, came off in my hand.
Wednesday afternoon, I came out to my car after work only to find a dead battery. I figured that when the wand had broken off the day before it must have triggered the lights or something. So while I waited for my roommate to come and give me a jump, I pulled a couple of the fuses out, only the ones linked to the headlights. And proceeded to drop one - which I now can not find. I got a jump and went back to my apartment - where I reinstalled the fuses, except for the one I couldn't find, and disconnected the battery.
Thursday morning, I was praying that the car would start - which it did. But the lights weren't on even though the fuses were in. So now i have no headlights or blinkers, I'm missing a chunk from my toe, and to cap it all off the housing office in Rexburg has been giving me fits because I'm not in "approved" housing.
The only place you're going to find "approved" housing is in Rexburg - hello!
And as if that weren't enough - the government said that I'm not eligible for a Pell Grant because the people who claim me as a dependent aka Mom and Dad, earn too much money - which is absurd because they don't - they've actually told me that for the least four years, but this time around it's really ticking me off.
And I have huge knots in my neck and my shoulders are very painful.

However, on a brighter note I did finally complete one of my projects that I've been working on for the last nine years - I guess that's suppose to make this crappy week all worth while. Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday.

My Weekend...

Ah yes, the date, let's see...

They picked us up at six o'clock - then we went to dinner in Idaho Falls and met up with a huge group of people, in this case that would be 30. Along the way we were talking and I found out he's 32 years old and into construction - he's on the managing and directing side of things as apposed to the actual building. Then we drove up to Artco - past Rexburg, to the ice caves. The caves we wanted to go to still has too much snow in the way and we got stuck part way - there was this giant puddle that we couldn't get past so we turned around and went to the civil defense caves a little ways down the road.
It was more spelunking than ice caves but it was still awesome - the only part that was really ice was the floor a little bit. We climbed into the cave and went left but then turned around and went right when we hit a dead end. Going right we went in considerably further before we hit another dead end - it was like a big room and then if you wanted to shimmy up some rocks and climb in and around and then down you could - I did everything but climb down because that's where it ended and I was wearing my hoodie and I didn't want to get stuck.

On the way back out, I started talking to one of the guys and we were still talking when we got out of the caves. We were just talking about this that and whatever but I think I made him a bit nervous when I told him I was 22 - he's 31 by the way. He was just like, "22 is good, I like 22." Then he started telling me about his divorce and all the ins and outs of what happened. That was interesting.

Anyway he was getting ready to leave and so he all hugged me, except I tripped over one of the logs and sort of fell into him - that was embarrassing but he said it was alright. And then he left.

Being around this group of people was good for my ego - around Rexburg at 22 I'm considered old but In Idaho Falls and Blackfoot where the majority of people are older, I'm considered a young'un. It's interesting that's for sure.

It has been my experience however that people generally don't start telling you about their divorces, etc until they see you as a complete non-threat to them. Which is fine, I don't know if I want to get involved with a divorcee anyway but I'm a non-threat to everyone and it's kind of sad.

So we got back to Blackfoot around 1:30 in the morning and discovered that we didn't have the keys to the apartment - I thought my roommate had hers so I didn't bring mine and she thought that she'd grabbed them on her way out, but she didn't. It didn't seem like very good form to wake anyone up, so my roommates date let us spend the night with him.

He has a house - he stayed down in the basement and my roommate and I stayed on the first floor. Had it been either one of us by ourselves we definitely wouldn't have done it but with two of us we figured we'd be okay. His house was cold though because he had a gas leak so we left as soon as we woke up Saturday morning.

At which point, my roommate got a spare key from the landlord and we went back into our apartment by 8:30. My roommate found her keys and then discovered that she'd left her cell phone over at her dates house - he dropped it by an hour or so later.

I promptly took a shower and then slept for the next four hours.

As my roommate said afterwards - it was the date from hell. Not really funny at the time but now that's done and over with, we can both sit back and laugh about it.

Day One...

I officially started my internship today. For those of you who don't know - I'm in Blackfoot, Idaho for the next two months working for the Bingham Memorial Hospital with their PR team - basically I'm getting hands on experience with the type of things that I hope to be doing after graduation. Not that I want to work at a hospital but any experience is good experience at this point. Blackfoot definitely wasn't where I wanted to go but I needed an internship and they offered so... here I am.

The town is laid out kind of goofily and I can't find anything - but that's mainly because this is only my third day in Blackfoot and I haven't driven around much. Once I orient myself and drive around a bit I'll feel right at home. It is rather odd though - they have a kindergarten, a couple different 1st-5th grades, a sixth grade, a couple 7th-8th grades and a high school - it's kind of weird but I'm sure they have a reason behind their madness.

Where I'm staying is only a couple of minutes from everything - the mortuary, the seminary building, the hospital, the train tracks, the park, the stores, the library (where I'm at right now), downtown Blackfoot, etc, etc. The mortuary is where one of the other single branches in the Blackfoot area meet - there are 4-5 stakes and therefore 4-5 single branches. The one that meets in the mortuary is about 100 people. Whereas the branch that I'm a part of meets in the seminary building by the middle school and consists of 30 people. The train tracks run through the middle of town - basically you're either on this side of the tracks or on that side, my roommate told me that you want to be careful once you get to some of the outlaying neighborhoods - they're a bit dodgy apparently. After work today I went jogging in the park and they have 3-4 mile loop around the lake (it's not really a lake in my opinion but I guess if you're from Blackfoot it is) - I only ran a mile today because I haven't run all winter and I'm really out of shape but I hope to be running that loop soon. Where I'm staying doesn't have internet access so I'll be going to the library at least once a day with my computer to check my email, etc and communicate with the outside world - near as I can tell Blackfoot is pretty back-woodsy, it's smaller than Rexburg but bigger than Elizabeth. I think they're pretty much in a bubble and they don't see anything wrong with it - which is kind of worrisome.

I like a small town as well as the next person but this is kind of weird. It was rather funny though - they had to shut the KFC down because they were growing drugs in the back. And they are totally into their county fair and the world's "largest potato."

As of this moment, I am glad that I'll only be here for two months - your thinking gets a bit warped if you stay here any longer than that. Then again ask me in a week or two and I'll probably have a different opinion. I know there's a reason why I'm doing my internship here and needed to move to Blackfoot for the two months but right now - I don't know what it is. Maybe it's just the tight branch that I need to be a part of and experience or maybe there's someone here I'm suppose to help... who knows at this point, but I'm sure I'll either figure it out or the Lord will let me know.

So Friday I had to leave my apartment in Rexburg, I didn't have housing in Blackfoot set up yet so I stayed with my aunt and uncle in Idaho Falls. I was intending to stay with them the two months and as such had unpacked and had gotten all settled. But the branch president called, I talked to a girl - now my roommate - we compromised on a price for rent and the next morning I packed everything back into my car and drove down to Blackfoot. Why? Because I didn't feel good about staying in Idaho Falls. Not that staying with family, not paying for rent or food for the first part of the summer wouldn't have been nice but... it just wasn't what I was suppose to do. I can't even really explain it but for whatever reason I need to be here and not there - either for myself or for someone else, probably both.

I'm renting a bedroom from a girl who is renting a fourth of a house - they have separate entrances, bed-rooms, bathrooms, kitchens, etc - the only thing they share is the washer and dryer, it's 50 cents per (I was excited about that because in Rexburg it's a dollar per). So I'm renting a bedroom and the branch president is loaning me a bed, a bed frame and a dresser while I'm here - he owns a furniture store apparently. Where I'm staying is small but I like it and the orange shag carpet in the bedroom has some... potential.

I think it'll be a good experience - I look forward to learning a lot from the hospital and coming away with some real world know-how.
